Coffee and a Country

Each week we visit a new country together. Residents gather for a friendly 45-minute conversation about everyday life, customs and stories from that country. No advance reading. Come to talk, or just to listen.

How it works

  • Every week, a new country. China is the first; each week after brings another.
  • Arrives Wednesday at noon (Eastern), ready for a gathering that week or the next.
  • A 45-minute conversation, led by a staff member or a resident host.
  • Three things to print: a reader set for residents, a host guide for the person leading, and a poster with blank lines to fill in the Date, Time and Location.
  • Passport Week: Each Passport Week pairs Wednesday’s Coffee and a Country (at noon) with a matching Coffee and a Story and Coffee and a Topic from the same country, so a Lifestyle Director can run up to three World Desk discussion sessions that week. We produce a new Passport Week every week to grow the library. Each community picks one Passport Week per calendar month from that library, and can ask us to create a special one. China is one sample country in the library.
