Singapore opens Southeast Asia’s largest Dunhuang cave show — full-size Silk Road replicas outside China

From Sep. 25 through March 2027, Singapore’s Asian Civilisations Museum hosts Southeast Asia’s largest Dunhuang / Mogao Caves exhibition with China’s Dunhuang Academy — four full cave replicas, dozens of paintings and artefacts, and a 13-meter reclining Buddha in the foyer. The real UNESCO caves near Dunhuang ration daily tickets so humidity does not ruin the murals; this show is one of the few places outside China where visitors can walk into full-size Silk Road cave art without that desert lottery.

Why it matters here

A way to explore another culture from home, and a starting point for sharing memories of art, travel, and places worth preserving.

FDA advisers back a blood test that screens for many cancers at once — but split on how much it helps

A federal advisory panel voted Wednesday on Galleri, a $949 blood test for adults 50 and older that looks for signs of dozens of cancers. The panel voted 10–0 that it is safe and 6–4 that it works, and 7–2 that its benefits outweigh its risks. A large British trial did not show the drop in advanced cancers it was designed to find. The FDA makes the final call in the coming months. Until then, the real question for anyone considering it: what does a “no cancer found” result actually tell you?

Why it matters here

For residents considering a new screening test, this is a useful question to take to a clinician: what would either result mean for my care?

U.S. rules out a diesel export ban as pump prices stay high

U.S. officials on Wednesday denied reports of a planned 90-day ban on diesel exports. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said a flat ban is not under consideration, warning it could push gasoline and jet-fuel prices higher. The national average for diesel sat near about $6.53 a gallon.

Why it matters here

Even without a diesel vehicle, residents have a reason to follow the story: the cost of moving goods is part of the wider cost-of-living picture.
