How we check
- Every story passes an independent fact-check or our editor’s approval before it runs, and anything flagged red stays out unless it is fixed and re-checked, or the editor approves it.
- Our editor, William Kohn, sets the rules, decides every story the fact-check flags red, and is accountable for every edition.
- We do not invent facts. Every item lists its sources — see How we make this.
Corrections and clarifications
- Oct. 4, 2026 · Texas Medicare patient’s COPD medicine delayed by an “insurance issue” (Oct. 3 edition). Editor’s note: we changed the headline so it does not suggest that the medicine delay caused the patient’s death, which the KFF Health News report does not say, and removed a personal detail about his death, in line with guidance for reporting on suicide.
- Oct. 4, 2026 · FDA approves Lyrfigtu for advanced bile-duct cancer (Sept. 30 edition). Correction: an earlier version said the drug fits only patients whose tumors have an FGFR2 gene fusion. The FDA approved it for tumors with an FGFR2 gene fusion or other rearrangement.
- Oct. 4, 2026 · PHL Variable policyholders sue the insurer’s private equity owners (Sept. 29 edition). Clarification: we added Nassau Financial Group’s denial of the claims in this lawsuit and gave the private equity firm’s full name, Golden Gate Capital.
- Oct. 4, 2026 · Dutch police arrest Amsterdam man in ShinyHunters hacking probe (Sept. 29 edition). Editor’s note: we removed details about the arrested man’s past that other outlets reported, because Dutch police have not named him.
Editor: William Kohn — I publish The World Desk so Americans can see how people abroad see the news. Named sources. Native-language reporting. My job is to educate, not to tell you what to think.
