Special Reports
Passport Week · Japan
Seven days of morning exercise, green tea, origami, cherry blossoms, films and conversation, built around Coffee and a Country: Japan, “Six-Thirty in the Park,” with a matching Coffee and a Story, “The Story of Aoyagi” by Lafcadio Hearn, and a choice of two Coffee and a Topic sessions.
Why it matters to Americans 65 and older: Japan is the oldest large country on earth: a record 29.4 percent of its people are 65 or older (Statistics Bureau of Japan, September 2025). It is a preview of where America is heading, and residents can compare notes on the morning exercise, work and neighborhood life that keep Japanese elders active.
